Thank you for the opportunity to share my work and the JOB SMART SYSTEM. I also enjoyed the lunch and learn. It is a great way to hear people's top initiatives. In your email, you mentioned that your compensation and occupational medicine departments might be interested in my work.
Relative to compensation, I believe that the Job Smart System has three clear fair employment law practice benefits. Overall, the best feature is that the Job Smart is a complete system.
First, for recruitment of staff, its ranked values of the top areas of competence (knowledge, psychology, biomechanics, sensory, quality & safety) in 29 categories, easily allow a determination of competitive ranges of salary and benefits. Job Smart does the math!
Second, for selection of staff, the rankings can be consistently weighed to add or subtract values for each applicant's experience. This removes bias from the selection process,
Third, retention of valued staff by appropriate compensation can be clearly and consistently tied to categories of competence during performance appraisal. In sum, the value and compensation database in the JOB SMART SYSTEM is responsive to the triad of organizational need, labor markets and individuals.
Occupational Medicine Departments can benefit from the JOB SMART SYSTEM, in two ways, as an organization management system for UPMC and its clients. Occupational medicine practitioners in all clinical disciplines (M.D., O.T. and P.T.) use the Job Smart System to match job demands and competencies for pre-employment screening and return to work strategies. Job Smart is a benefit to the practice of occupational medicine by providing a communication tool that lets all concerned parties agree on job realities Job Smart provides a baseline of occupational data, which helps to define the exact tests necessary to determine if a person can safely be on the job. With clear standards of job demands, compliance with workers compensation laws is assured. Laws like OSHA and ADA rule. The Job Smart ergonomic analysis determines the level of risk by both frequency and severity. With this data, a best match employee can be recruited and retained. In terms of Americans with Disabilities compliance, Job Smart sets a standard of "reasonable accommodation" by analysis and planning that meets the needs of individuals and the codes.
